The first Moomin tv-series “Die Muminfamilie” (1959-1960)

The Japanese-Finnish Moomin animation tv-series from the 90’s is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. But did you know that the German series Die Muminfamilie, was the first TV series about the Moomins?

Die Muminfamilie had two seasons with total of 12 episodes: episodes 1–6 (Die Muminfamilie – Eine drollige Gesellschaft) are based on the book Finn Family Moomintroll and episodes 7–12 (Die Muminfamilie – Sturm im Mumintal) based on the book Moominsummer Madness. Series was produced by Augsburger Puppenkiste (the Ausburg Puppet Theater) in 1959-1960.

Below you can watch the first episode:

The puppets in the video (plus many more Moomin and Tove Jansson related items) were on display at the Ateneum Tove Jansson exhibition in Helsinki in 2014. In the video below actors Melanie Marschall ja Florian Moch from the Augsburger Puppenkiste puppet theater are controlling the original puppets.

What do you think about Die Muminfamilie and these cute puppets?
