Tove Jansson’s Moomin illustration in the new premises of the Women’s Hospital in Finland

The renewed premises of the labor ward at the Women’s Hospital in Helsinki, Finland, opened at the beginning of March. The Women’s Hospital is part of the Helsinki University Hospital and provides demanding specialist medical care for women and newborn babies.

Through a charity project, the 16 spacious and cozy delivery rooms are now decorated with the illustrations of Finnish children’s book authors and illustrators, delighting both the families and the caretakers.

Tove Jansson’s illustration from the book Comet in Moominland is located in room nr. 7.

This illustration is from the third edition of the Swedish version of the Comet in Moominland. Tove Jansson used to change some of the illustrations and texts for different editions and language versions of her Moomin books and there are three different versions of the book Comet in Moominland, Kometjakten, 1946 / Mumintrollet på kometjakt, 1956 / Kometen kommer, 1968.

Tove Jansson donated the original illustration to the City of Tampere in 1986 and it will most likely to be exhibited in the new Moomin Museum opening in Tampere, Finland on June 17th, 2017.

From the room nr. 10 you’ll find the charming illustration by Mauri Kunnas, one of the internationally most well-known and widely published Finnish children’s book authors.
