On Saturday the colourful kites rose above Kaivopuisto, Helsinki and decorated the sky. Over 5000 people gathered around to spend the afternoon flying the kites.
Sophia Jansson, Tove Jansson’s niece, was the patron of the Kite Festival. One of the most important advice Sophia got from Tove was that everyone has the right to be exactly what they want. That is why the Kite Festival was important event for Sophia: “Kites can be considered as one of the most beautiful symbols of freedom”, Sophia says.
