The movie theatre Maxim 2 was one of the three cinemas in Helsinki that showed the very first Finnish animations in 1914. This is why 2014 is celebrated as the 100th anniversary for Finnish animation.
We’re happy to announce that the 2010 film Moomins and the Comet Chase, directed by Maria Lindberg, will be shown at the centenary opening event 24 January. Producer Tom Carpelan will also be present to introduce the film.
The film is based on the book Comet in Moominland and it’s compiled from the episodes of the 1977–1982 Moomins TV series animated at Se-ma-for in Poland. Tove Jansson oversaw the production back when the original animation was being produced.
