Have you ever seen Moomins in Svenska Dagbladet?
Tove Jansson’s first Moomin comic strip “Mumintrollet och jordens undergång” (Moomintroll and the End of the World) was published in Ny Tid newspaper once a week in 1947.
From 1954 onwards, the original publisher of the main series of Moomin comic strips was the Evening News newspaper with its 12 million daily circulation.
In 1955, the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet started to publish Moomin comics, together with Finnish Ilta-Sanomat, and Danish Politiken. Moomin comics appeared in over 40 countries in more than 100 papers at its peak.
We recently found some great ads from our archives – in 1956-1957, the Swedish Svenska Dagbladet promoted the whole newspaper with Moomins.
