Finland’s capital Helsinki is full of Moomin and Tove-related places to see and experience, as well as Tampere and Naantali in Finland with the Moomin Museum and Moominworld. Did you know that also Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden, treats us Moomin fans well? Let’s explore Moomin in Stockholm!
Junibacken
Junibacken, a children’s museum and fantasy house on the island of Djurgården in the centre of Stockholm, has featured many Moomin-themed exhibitions, including the last one launched in 2022. In the Moomin exhibition, you can walk around the Moominvalley and meet many of its inhabitants created by Tove Jansson. Also, the puppet theatre production Hur gick det sen? (The book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My) is performed daily.
Moomin play area by Junibacken at Stockholm Arlanda Airport – (closed)
Junibacken has collaborated with Stockholm Arlanda Airport for many years, where Junibacken’s playgrounds have cheered up the life of travelling children. On April 2016, a new play area opened in Terminal 5, similar to Junibacken’s Storybook Square. The playground featured a creative mix of Moomins, Lasse and Maja, Pettson and Findus, and a man from the story Sagan om det röda äpplet. The theme of the airport’s playground is, of course, “travel.” At the indoor playground, you can play, climb, and have fun with everything you see!
Moomin family cabins at cruise ferries sailing between Helsinki and Stockholm
Finnish cruise ferries Silja Serenade and Silja Symphony both have ten new Moomin family cabins. Moomintroll and Little My are familiar and an extremely cheerful sight already while boarding as well as during the cruise at the Moomin disco, playgrounds, and corridors, but the Moomin family cabins guarantee an overall Moomin atmosphere during the whole boat trip between Helsinki and Stockholm.
