Here are the colours Tove Jansson used in the Moomin picture books

The Moomin.com colour palette is inspired by the colours Tove Jansson used in The book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My (1952) and Who will comfort Toffle? (1960). Quite a nice idea to use “the official Moomin colours”, don’t you think?

At the Manuscript and Picture Unit at Åbo Akademi University Library in Turku, Finland, there is a significant collection of Tove Jansson’s manuscripts. The script of The book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My also includes a colour map Tove Jansson made for the illustrations.

This colour map painted by Tove Jansson in the 1950s matches quite well with the colours in the published book. And did you know that the official Moomin font is also based on Tove’s handwriting? These archive treasures are something we love!
